How the AI Investment Decision Index works

The Index is designed to show whether management has enough visibility, evidence and decision structure to rely on AI investment claims. It is intentionally simple and fixed so the result can be explained and reproduced.

12 questionsThree questions map to each of four management dimensions: Investment Visibility, Value Evidence, Decision Readiness, and Governance & Assurance.
0–3 points per answerEach response receives 0, 1, 2 or 3 points from weakest to strongest. There is no hidden AI-generated weighting.
Dimension scorePoints earned in a dimension are divided by the maximum available points and converted to a score out of 100.
Overall IndexThe four dimension scores are averaged equally to produce the Index. Organization, industry, spend and portfolio-size fields do not change the result.

0–39Visibility FirstMaterial visibility, evidence or decision structure is missing.
40–59Measurement RequiredSome foundations exist, but material claims still need stronger evidence or validation.
60–79Decision-Ready FoundationA credible foundation exists; remaining gaps should be closed before decisions are consistently defensible.
80–100Evidence-LedA strong reported foundation for evidence-based AI investment decisions.
